Skiing on the highest mountain in Switzerland? Go to Zermatt for your winter holiday
Among the other four thousanders (peaks which rise above 4000 metres, or 13,000 feet) rises the majestic king of the mountains: the legendary Matterhorn (4478 m high). The Zermatt ski area offers a total of 138 kilometres of marked runs for good skiers. The three large ski areas are, admittedly, not ideally connected with one another, but an electric bus does offer some help in getting around. This Alps metro has a smooth run from Zermatt up to Sunnegga.
Discover the varied facilities of the winter sports area Zermatt from your own chalet
The blue and red runs from Blauherd to Sunnegga or from Unterrothorn to Tuftern are good training areas. In addition, there are nice red and blue runs on the mountain slopes of the Matterhorn. For those with a bit more experience, there are various black runs, including the 'Triftji', which is the most beautiful in the Oberwallis region. Cross-country skiers will find a few pistes set out for them, and hikers can enjoy a good dozen trails in the pretty area. Your chalet in Zermatt is the ideal starting point for a lovely winter sports holiday.
