Last but not least! Don't forget to visit the historic village of Urk. This town deserves a special place in the heart of the Flevolanders, and should be on the agenda of every visitor. Make sure you visit Urk from your holiday park or holiday home. You won't be sorry. Before the reclamation of the two polders in Flevoland, this fishing village was an island in the Zuiderzee. Or rather, no more than a hill of boulder clay. The inhabitants were - and still are - deeply connected to the water and the traditions of fishing. Urk's current fishing fleet in Flevoland is the largest in the Netherlands. Due to its isolated location, a unique culture had been created in the past, that lives on to this day. This can even be found in Urk's genetic pool. Urk is different!
