Picardy

Looking for a holiday close to home? Then choose a holiday home in Picardy! This region, north of Paris, is known for its rolling countryside, numerous castles and a number of beautiful Gothic cathedrals. Enjoy the peace and quiet in a restored farmhouse, terraced gîte or quaint cottage in one of the charming villages, and be woken up, all refreshed, by the birds singing. Prefer being by the sea? Stay in a holiday park, apartment or holiday home on the Picardy coast.

Your holiday home in Picardy, surrounded by castles and cathedrals

Dive into history while on holiday in Picardy! The region is known as the birthplace of Gothic architecture. There are a number of beautiful Gothic cathedrals to admire here. Notre Dame of Amiens is a great example of this. In Beauvais stands the tallest cathedral in the world: the Cathedral of Saint Peter of Beauvais. Gothic architecture enthusiasts can even go on a cathedral tour encompassing 6 of the region's largest cathedrals. The region has many more historic buildings, castles, churches and chapels. The following excursions are certainly worth going on:

  • Visit the Castle of Compiègne, the former royal palace. Compiègne has a quaint old town centre with beautiful shopping streets and historic buildings.
  • In Chantilly, you can spend the whole day enjoying yourself. The highlight is the water castle, which attracts many visitors. There is also a park and a living horse museum.
  • Walk the mudflats in the Somme Bay, where you can go bird and seal spotting. It certainly looks a bit like walking over the Dutch mud flats, but the subsoil is a bit firmer here.
  • There are more than 5,000 flower species to admire in the Gardens of Valloires.
  • When you visit Le Marcanterra Nature Park, don't forget to take your binoculars. More than 400 bird species come to this park every year. The area features beautiful grassland with dunes and fens.
  • The Pierrefonds Castle is particularly beautiful from the outside, and has often served as a backdrop for film sets.
  • Gerberoy is the city of roses. The Rose Festival is held here every year, in June. The rose, a symbol of peace, is the symbol of Picardy. In Gerberoy, you can also stroll around the historic centre and visit the castle.

Quaint accommodation in a quiet location. A friendly and welcoming owner. A small downside for the lawn... Mowing would have been appreciated... and for the barbecue... Rust. Equipment (fridge, oven, microwave, ceramic hob and dishwasher) appreciable and functional. Cleaning not quite the best.
