Originally, Lolland was actually called Laaland, which literally means 'lowland'. From the Netherlands, this region in Denmark is easily accessible as a holiday destination. You can take a bridge to the island or take a ferry from Puttgarden to Rødby. When you go on holiday to this region, you tend to go for the stunning natural environment. It is a fantastic walking destination, where you can wander along the wide sandy beaches. The long sandy beaches alternate with open, green landscapes. A popular trip here is the Knuthenborg Safari Park, Europe's largest safari park. Do you prefer to spot seals? In the Rødsand Game Reserve, large groups of seals come together for a rest. You may see these beautiful animals in the distance. As well as this island, you can also visit many nearby islands. On Falster, you will find the white sandy beach Marielyst and on Møn you can see the old town of Stege. Or how about the chalk cliffs of Møn's Klint? Climb to the top and enjoy an impressive view of the Baltic Sea. The chalk cliffs are part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve and shouldn't be missed. Fejø and Femø are two small islands near Lolland that are breathtakingly beautiful. They can be easily accessed from the island too.

If you have some time, you may want to spend a day in the Danish capital Copenhagen. It's about 2 hours by car from Lolland.
